Short and touching story about Ellen DeGeneres

I'm not a big Ellen DeGeneres fan, even though I find the Visa commercials she's been doing very cute and think she's a pretty good awards show host. So I was only happy to see her on the cover of Allure magazine (on newsstands right now) because it's an acknowledgement of queer-female beauty. But Stephen Bennett and others ran with her admission of sexual abuse by her stepfather. Of course that's why she's gay, right?

This morning, my wife was trying to find the name of a lip gloss she wants, that she saw in Allure. And she had to show me a paragraph when she ran across it. In that bit at the front of the magazine where various staffers explain why they wrote or photographed what they did, photographer Michael Thompson discussed the cover photo of Ellen DeGeneres, where she looks absolutely radiant and happy:

"When shooting Ellen DeGeneres for this month's cover, Thompson relied heavily on one prop--the star's five-foot-eight girlfriend, Portia de Rossi, who perched a few inches behind Thompson on an apple crate. 'There's magnetism between these women,' he says. 'So I told Ellen to use Portia's eyes as a focal point.' The trick worked. 'There was a moment when Portia laughed and Ellen's whole face lit up--boom, that was the cover shot."

Say it with me, y'all--AWWWWWWWWW....

Ellen cracks me up! Even the commercials she's been doing crack me up. Maybe I'm just easily ammused?

Thank you so much for coming to visit me. Our friend SB has his comments disabled now when I am home from work, so I will just have to catch up from here, there, and everywhere I guess.

And Ellen? Nothing better than love!
