A few things

I've just been busy again! Today I had to bless out one of the "little intern girls" (not the one I gave love advice to). BossLady and I call this one "Prep-H", short for Preparation H, because she's irritating and stays on peoples' asses. I am Queen of the Interns--my BossLady put me in charge of them. She keeps telling me about this one taking a break and that one flirting with a male worker, that sort of petty-ass thing. Finally, today, I just suggested that perhaps she needs "something more challenging to do," told her that I didn't see the others at my office nearly as often as I saw her, and winded up by saying flat-out that tattling may be a winning strategy in school, but isn't here. I felt mean--I hate doing that stuff, which is one reason why I have no interest in being a manager--but she *is* here to learn, and I think it had to be said.

I got my copy of Sinead O'Connor's Throw Down Your Arms today! It's really good. Really, really, really good. Shockingly good. "Downpressor Man" and "Curly Locks" are my favorite tracks, but it is one of the very few CDs I can actually play all the way through without wanting to skip *once*. (The last one like that, for me, was Big and Rich's Horse of a Different Color.) I'm going to be torturing everybody with this thing for at least a week. I had it delivered at work because I couldn't wait until I got home. (Yes, I pre-ordered.) And she's gonna be performing on Jay Leno tonight!!!! One word: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Speaking of Sinead, an e-quaintance referred to this as my "booty blog." ;-)

I want to clarify something about the chiropractor post. Friday was my first time seeing this one. I have tried several, and been embarrassed every time, too much so to go back to any (except my uncle by marriage, and that was because my aunt begged me to give him another chance). It's not that whatever negative energy had collected in my spine was released; it's that I just didn't have much *to* release.
That's why I was all thrilled. I'll see him again even though he was a bit smug and cocky--I didn't go to make friends, you know?

Finally, something we got in the mail on Monday...My mom travels for a living, and is always sending us weird and fun stuff she finds.

So the latest care package included, along with a few snack items she can only find in Virginia:

*A Law and Order computer game that she found in a clearance bin. Law and Order being the show that finally allowed those two strong women to bond with each other, after over ten uneasy years. (They love it, I hate it. And just before our wedding, Mom told L'Ailee it was okay to cry over the death of one of its stars, Jerry Orbach, and held her while she allowed herself to shed a couple tears over it.)

*A bunch of bright paint samples (in cute little squeezable bottles, even! Yes, literal *paint* to play with!) and a brochure from Sunny's Good Time Paint. I love to decorate, I love to refinish, and I loooooooove bright colors. The stuff from Sunny's makes me want to repaint the house and everything in it, then move on to the rest of the city. L'Ailee loves...gray, and black, and chrome. It has been hard melding our two aesthetics together in one home.

*A bumper sticker that reads "My other ride is Tony Stewart." Tony Stewart being the NASCAR driver I have a huge crush on.

When Mom called this morning, L'Ailee asked Mom why she hated her and I questioned her respect for our marriage. :-)

Oh Cracker..that was such a good post. I loved the intern story...where were you in the Clinton Whitehouse....you were surely needed there!

You're mom sounds like a hoot!

Have a great week!

I hated management for just that reason ~ too much dealing with the petty office politics. Sounds like you handled it far better than I used to. Mom does sounds great, as the Butler said. And I wept like a baby when Orbach died (atypical for me as well). There was just something about him.

Well, Orbach was one of the kings of New York. My mom was like, "Cry because you enjoyed watching him on TV and now you can't. Cry because you'll never get to meet him. I understand how you feel about not knowing him, but it's okay to cry if you have some perspective."

I'm sure I'd have kept Monica's hot ass in line, too. "Honey, I know the power's, like, irrestable, but even if you do manage to get him, think about what it'll do to you...this is a lose-lose!"

Mom used to refer to L'Ailee as "the little Russian bitch" or "that bald bitch." L'Ailee used to sputter "Why does she hate me so much?", and not in jest. (I had to keep telling her, "It's not you so much as your place in my life.") There have been *significant* improvements in recent years. Mom and I also have found that we have a *much* better relationship from a distance!

Yet another way cool post.

I love your mom's care package. My mom used to do that when we lived 3000 miles apart.

I'm glad she is coming around to accepting you, your life and your life partner.

Indeed, I agree with the others, great post.

Hope you don't mind me posting here being a Jeff Gordon fan.

Oh Gosh, I would have NO patience for tattling co-wokers/interns, etc... It's hard enough dealing with tattling 10 year olds!

Feel free to come paint over here when you've run out of things to paint at your place! I still have two bathrooms and a guest room that need work! LOL
